Let’s give this a try. They do it at other blogs! Do you think Vanderbeam will be able to pull this off? And pull what off, killing Mr. Jinx?
I really have been enjoying drawing the mecha. You may remember another influence from Neon Genesis Evangelion in Starslip Crisis, all the way back from the second storyline. Interestingly enough, my idea for the Thought as protected by the Deep Time Agency predates my viewing of Eva, even though the Human Instrumentality Project is pretty much the same idea. Maybe that’s why I liked the series so much. Except for the original ending, anyway.

Crayon-rendered fugues represent the deepest recesses of . . . well, the series was ground breaking, easily influencing everything afterward.
I posit that Mr. Jinx will be allowed to live so long as usefulness allows. The suit's diplomacy and etiquette interface will amplify Memnon's largest fist.
Which original ending did you not like? And which ending did you like? I seriously think there's at least 3 endings to Eva based on all the retcons and various OAV/movie/tv series.
IMO, I'd recommend watching the Evangelion TV series up to episode 23 or 24 (whichever one it is where Shinji is forced to kill Kaoru), then pop in End of Evangelion (skip Death and Rebirth since EoE covers the same ground, plus the climax of SEELE storming NERV command and killing everything in sight, Rei's transformation, etcetera).
Still haven't watched the EVA reboots yet. Seems like Anno is milking that cow for all it's worth.
Having watched only the tv series, I find myself utterly lost as to what order and to what degree of completion I should approach the mountain of additional material. I can only assume a shovel is involved…
A giant robot for a giant jinx hug????
IMO, the bot is only there to let Vanderbeam a chance to actuall talk Jinx out of it… if it goes down to a fight, then, sorry to say it so frankly, but it'll be lame… here should come a kind of Kirk-Spock talk, one we will remember for ages…
Kill Jinx. He probably had time to lay eggs allover the ship.
Do you remember that one time Kirk and Spock had to fight over a women? I say, Vanderbeam has to challenge Jinx Place on top of the imaginary tribe (or whatever) by outperforming Jinx in some bizarre mating rituals which will be just hilarious if done in a Mecha. But, as always, I'll probably love whatever you decide to do
Or you could take the story in the craziest shocker we have ever read! Jinx and Beam's are dukin' it out, mecha style, when from the woods, investigating the commotion, is Beams lost love whose escape pod jettisoned to this planet after the explosion. Then just have fun with the story after that. But whatever you do, Jinx must live and take his rightful place back with the crew.
For a second there, I thought you were going to suggest that Jovia pops out of the forest, only to be crushed in the melee.
Which is, I'll admit, slightly funny, but a little too dark.
I'm loving the robot, especially the last panel Friday.
Vanderbeam should order Jinx to go get him a cup of tea or something, that'll probably jog his memory than appeals to friendship.
Yep, Vanderbeam needs to shake off his own conditioning against being mean to Mr. Jinx and treat him with the same oblivious disrespect he did in the beginning.
Oh, and the Mecha is very cool.
The problem is that Beams has been too nice to Jinx lately. Jinx needs to be, unambiguously, alpha or beta.
The mecha is just there to get Beams into patronizing range of Jinx. He just doesn't know that yet.
Thats really all Beams needs to do, is pull it off. One of Jinx arms that is. Should convince him that Beams is Alpha and he'll shrink back to normal size again.
Seems to me that Vanderbeam will fail utterly, but in a comedic fashion, wounding himself in the process. His wounds (and ineptitude) will, however, provoke a deep-seated compassion within Jinx.
Jinx will molt off his warrior body, stepping out of the fractured cranium in his original form. He will then heal Vanderbeam with one of his bodily secretions, offering an explanation with slightly too much detail.
Edgewise will get drunk.
I dunno about this, man. I don't know if you're familiar with this other webcomic called "chainsawsuit" but the guy who draws it has been doing the comments thing for a while, and it is mostly dreck over there. He did a "league of extraordinary gentlemen" tribute and this one guy got a +13 for a Sean Connery reference. I mean really.
Oh also I bet it's not really Jinx but actually a clone and the real Jinx is being held hostage by oh let's say xxxyyy.
Yeah, but it's nice to add your 2 cents worth by commenting on the day's strip. It's empowering to the readers. It seems ironic that Vanderbeam's previous lack of respect for Jinx is what kept Jinx under control, but interesting because this is not merely a cultural difference but a species-specific difference.
Finally, while some suggested plot twists would be interesting, I don't see any evidence that Kris has any elaborate twists in store. Once Jinx recognizes Vanderbeam and Beams shows the proper disrespect, Jinx will return back to normal.
Then again, I suppose this comment is mostly dreck as Simon_Roberts would call it.
No, sir, Starslip is never "dreck." Even at its worst it manages to be a combination of schlock, pulp, and oh let's say chutzpah.
